  • The Rev JOHN MOSSOP

He was rector from 1829 to his death in 1873 – and is buried in St Bartholomew’s Churchyard.

He did keep an eagle as a pet, and owned various taxidermy birds which he kept on display in the rectory.

He wrote poetry, and was fascinated by ornithology. His main work (published before his death) was the Ornitholgia Britannica A Synopsis of British Land-birds, in Verse and prose.

If you feel the urge to have a read, you can find it in Google Books.

It’s a long book, and his poetry is pretty decent.
